''It's a huge amount,'' said Bob Harbin, director of the county parks.Īlthough Broward County has offered the Chip-a-Tree program for 15 years, this is the first time that officials have paired it with an ongoing program to replant trees in Broward. Last year, the county recycled nearly 17,500 trees into 219 tons of mulch.
The county turns the old Christmas trees into mulch to be used in parks, flower beds, walkways and horse trails.
